Neutrogena healthy volume mascara regular is designed to plump, build and condition the lashes. Upon application, they must basically look 400 percent fuller. The wand is said to be partially responsible for making this task possible. Additional claims include no clumps, smudges and flakes. The liquid can be easily removed with the use of soap or Neutrogena’s makeup remover. By the way, do note that it is regular and not waterproof.

According to the label, the mascara contains oil of sweet almond, olive and meadowfoam seeds. Perhaps, that is why, it has been tagged as healthy. Anyways, the label also says that the mascara is dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested. The conclusion drawn from this is that it is safe for all those who have sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses. Yet in case of allergic reaction, Neutrogena has instructed to not use the mascara anymore. That is nice, but how good the mascara is can be answered by us users. So below is my review. Just like before, I will be giving talking about both benefits and problems in honest way.

Benefits:

The color of Healthy Volume is the biggest plus point. The one I have been using for three months is black 02. This color definitely darkness the lashes wonderfully. The overall texture of the liquid is also good. Only if applied 2 or 3 coats, it does not cause clumps and flakes. In a way, such a trial leaves the lashes lighter to touch and more natural looking. Upon application, they do look lengthier.

Neutrogena is very proud of this mascara’s gigantic wand. There is no way to underestimate it. Below is its picture. Take a look at the size.

Notice how it is bigger than the normal wand of IsaDora mascara. I feel those who have big eyes with lesser lashes will probably love it more. A point you must note is that the wand will decide the curls of your lashes. So to get the best result, you have to get comfortable to its huge size. By the way, it takes more than 3 coats to get the curls. This is what I have been noticing.

So how long does Healthy Volume last? In my case, it has been for several hours. I feel bad that I have not been keeping note of that. However, I do know that after 8 to 14 hours, the lashes seem to go back to being normal and some soft smudges become visible.

Problems:

Healthy Volume is little too much regular. What I am trying to say is that it does not dry out easily. Once it even ended up staining my sunglasses. I should have taken their picture. Truly, they were in a mess. What exactly went wrong? When I did not see the curls forming from three coats, I went for the fifth one and did not wait up to 30 minutes to dry out the lashes. This must have already hinted you that getting curls out of this mascara is difficult. But no, do not think it is completely impossible. If you simply love applying one coat after the other for more than 8 minutes you will have no problem seeing the curls.

The third problem is the wand. Because of its huge size, it can run onto eyelids easily and that equals to having mascara stains on the eye makeup. I have experienced this at least 7 times. I will just say that caution has to be taken while using this wand. In fact, slowest application is the best.

Fourth problem is associated with removable of the mascara. The liquid of Healthy Volume is greasy. I believe it is because of the amount of oil used in it. Other ingredients might also be responsible. No matter what the reason is, at the end of the day, even after a lot of rubbing with soap and face wash, the mascara does not want to come off easily. Do note that Neutrogena’s own makeup remover might be the solution. I just don’t use it anymore. I must also mention that you really do not want this mascara to get into your eyes. The irritation that comes from it can be extreme.

Verdict:

Healthy Volume is like normal mascara to me. Its results do not seem to have the touch of miracle or magic. Perhaps, it is best for all those who want their lashes to have a thick coat of color only. But yes, decision of whether to really buy it must be taken only after inspecting wand. In my review above, I did not cover the topic of this mascara’s effect on eyes with lenses. I actually cannot say anything about it because I don’t wear them.

We expect good products from Neutrogena. I feel regular Healthy Volume can have a good future. But for the time being, because of all the problems highlighted above, I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars.

There is actually no mystery on what a white mark is. Experts believe it is the sign of trauma the nail has gone through. You see, sometimes accidentally, nails bend. The research we are going to talk about today is nothing new to those in the west. It already was covered by many news sites last year. They skipped some things in their articles. We will have a take a look at those here. Before we go into that here is the highlight of what the research revealed.

Goal: Finding out what people thought of women who wear makeup.

Research done by: Independent researchers of Harvard and Boston universities, and Dana-Farber Institute.

Financier: Proctor and Gamble

Tool: Pictures of 25 Caucasian, African American and Hispanic women. They were given three different looks-- barefaced (natural), moderate makeup (professional) and extreme/dramatic makeup (glamorous).

Population surveyed: 268 adults (Males and females included).

Rules Applied: The people were asked to see the pictures to come up with their opinions. The first 149 people were given 250 milliseconds. The rest got unlimited amount of time. The mission was to get both impulsive as well as meditated opinions on the question.

Results: Women who wear makeup are more dependable and capable than the barefaced ones. But the first prize winner is the professional look.

These findings are definitely making the cosmetics industry smile. But others, especially women who do not wear makeup are not at all happy about them. We need to include the female professors in this group also. After the research report went live, they were the first ones to share their opposing view. According to them, it is wrong to judge a woman based on what she wears on her face. This is completely true. However, if you analyze the result you will come to know that neither barefaced nor the dramatic look was favored by the population. The winner is professional look whose main intention is to make a woman appear well groomed. Probably, this is how the voters felt also. Their eyes got attracted to the cleanliness. The truth is that a bare face makes acne marks, dryness and other skin problems more visible. The society we live in does not want to accept them. According to its concept, they minimize a woman’s beauty. So we are always searching for the clearer and younger looking facial skin. We don’t even care if it is achieved by temporary solutions like foundations, lipsticks and eye shadows. As long as the beauty is restored we are fine.

What we just talked about has nothing to do with reliability which has been the main highlight of the research. Women who wear makeup tend to come off as more reliable and capable. This is what the research result showed. But why that is so? Why people thought like that? I have one explanation for this. The credit for it, however, goes to one of my close friends. She basically explained to me the hidden notion back in 2004 when we two were going to high school. Yes, we discussed the topic long before this research took place. However, that specific time, I did not understand anything of what she said. Yes, I used to wear makeup but that was just to make myself feel good. Now I get her points. The research result helped me. Anyways, here is what she told me:

“A woman who wears makeup unintentionally sends down the signal to people that she loves and takes care of herself. People receiving the signal then subconsciously form another belief. They start to think that this lady is happy and stable mentally. Therefore she can be relied on. Moreover, since she loves herself, she will not bear to see the people and environment around her in dismay.”

Makeup basically is not an important or essential thing in a woman’s life. In fact, certain things can totally divert her attention from it. Examples include depression and sadness. The opposite occurs with makeup on. It tells people of her happy mood. Thus, she is taken as more reliable and competent for a task.

None of the news articles published these factors. The female professors were more concerned about how people made the wrong judgement. That is comprehensible. Makeup does not talk about what a woman is mentally. However, we are always driven by the outer decorations. So the professors should have given importance to what kind of thought pattern worked inside those who took part in the research.

American Psychiatric Association makes an official manual which identifies different mental illnesses. This manual is called Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental Disorders (DSM). Its edition keeps changing as new illnesses come or get verified. Those who work with psychologically disturbed patients take help from DSM to study their mental illnesses. If needed, they let others in the medical industry such as the insurance companies to know about their findings about these patients. The one you are seeing in the picture is DSM-IV. Its time is expiring. The latest one coming out will be called as 5^th edition. There is controversy surrounding this one because it is on its way to declaring that shyness is a mental illness. If officially made public this manual is going to stir trouble for all shy Americans.

Shyness is a very broad personality trait. No one is shy because of just one specific reason. Every person is different and shyness can be either situational or habitual. But what DSM is going to do is put every shy person in the same category.

Google Plus is still new. It will take some time for us to learn its different features. By the way, Google is still making quick changes to some of them. At the moment, many webmasters are making Plus pages for their websites and blogs. The process of creating the page is pretty easy, but mistakes do happen and that can impact the overall design of the page. Also sometimes we just want it to be completely deleted. But how would we go about doing this? Let us find out here.

1. First of all, log on to your Google Plus.

2. Once you are on your profile page, locate your first name on the left.

3. Just under it, you will find the line pages. A number will be there just next to it. See the tiny example given below. Here I have two pages. We will delete one of them.

4. On clicking the upside down arrow, you will find the name of the page you created. Yes, in the image you are seeing two Girly Stuff pages. We will get rid of the iconless one. For this, we need to click “manage your pages”.

5. The next page will show you titles of all your pages inside boxes. Choose the one you wish to delete and click “Settings” written under its title.

6. Now you should be on your target page. Scroll down to locate “delete page”. Click it.

7. Next, Google will pop up a box containing the information shown in the picture.

8. If you are determined to delete the page just pick "yes" from this box.

9. The result of this will be blurring of the page and the line “deleting”.

10. After that, you will be taken back to your profile page. That’s it, your task is complete.

Severe Side Effect and Death From Hair Color

At the end of last year, various reports on the danger of using hair dye surfaced in UK. Majority of us in America are completely unaware of this. But now it is about time that we learn about it because the brand involved is sold even here in the US.

According to British media, right after 20 minutes of applying hair dye, a 17 year old girl fainted and died. Another lady named Julie McCabe collapsed, but was left with severe brain damage. She experienced breathing problem while washing the dye off of her hair. Doctors basically reported that her brain did not get enough oxygen at the last minute for which it went through the damage. What brand of hair dye was she using? It was none other than L’Oreal Preference.

It is predicted that p-Phenylenediamine (PPD), a chemical compound which usually goes in the hair dye is behind these cases. Experts, however, have been saying that it couldn’t be so. Studies show that death from p-Phenylenediamine cannot occur that easily. Really? But they do conclude that it can give severe allergic reaction! If we use medical terminology we will see that another name of severe allergic reaction is anaphylaxis. One of its symptoms is breathing difficulty. Later death is possible. Julie McCabe did trouble breathing for which she suffered the brain damage.

L’Oreal is aware of all the cases, but has not shown any interest in recalling their hair colors. The toxic chemical PPD is also found in majority of the Revlon, Garnier and Clairol hair colors.

The only way to avoid it is to go organic. However, caution must still be applied. PPD does sometimes make it to organic hair colors. A good example is Naturtint. Therefore, it is best to investigate the label of whatever hair color grabs your attention. You should also try practicing caution while buying commercially processed henna tattoo paste or powder because makers often add PPD to it.

Craft Smart Polymer Clay Review

Craft Smart polymer clay is produced by Michael’s itself. That is why; it is either equal or cheaper than those made by other brands. According to the label, the bar is 2 ounce, soft and non toxic. For the time being, it is available at 15 major colors. Michael’s thinks it is perfect for bead creation. But how exactly is its quality? You will know it a second from my review.

I actually, randomly grabbed the Craft Smart polymer clay in black. I did not care about the brand. Only after using the bar I realized that it was very different from the popular ones. The texture of this specific polymer clay matches plastic. There is no way I will say that it is very soft though. The gist is that it is tougher and dryer. Unfortunately, this hinders cutting and conditioning any pieces from it especially if its size is bigger. Problems, of course, do not end there. The material simply does not have good binding properties for which its tinier pieces fall off especially during conditioning and shaping. Absence of flexibility is next. Bending a piece from it results in breaking. The color, on the other hand, is not dry enough. I have seen the black one leaving marks all over the project table.

As for the bead making process, it is not easy with this clay at all. I actually did try to use this Crafts Smart one to make them, but each time I tried to make holes in them they either cracked or gave off the tinier pieces. Eventually, I just had to cancel the idea of making anything with it. But yes, I did use its small pieces to make eyes, hair and other micro objects. This is where the polymer clay does not seem to display any problem.

What about the result of baking it? Well, I will not say it is bad. The baked result is very normal. The clay just hardens properly and continues to stay durable. However, it seems that the remaining raw clay bar has to be used quicker because over the course of time its dryness intensifies. This makes the making of tiny objects impossible.

Overall, I will never recommend anyone to buy Crafts Smart polymer clay. It is not even appropriate for those under 10 since it is tough and leaves the project table completely covered with tiny pieces and paint markings. But I am slightly impressed by the 2 ounce weight and baked quality. Only because of this, I give this polymer clay 2 out of 5 stars.

L’Oreal shampoos are not advertised widely for which not many people are into them. But the ultimate fact is that they are not just made for women, but also for men. While the women’s versions are marketed in three different bright colored bottles, the men’s versions come in black bottles. But all of them are titled as Vive Pro. I happened to get the Vive Pro Hydra Gloss for dry hair despite the fact that my hair is purely silky. I just wanted to try out something new. All my life I faithfully used Pantene. Anyways, Vive pro is said to have royal jelly, a milky liquid made by bees. According to the bottle label, it is supposed to heavily moisturize and soften the hair. For best result, just like most brands, L’Oreal recommends users to get the Vive pro conditioner also. However, I chose to go without it. If you have been a regular visitor of Girly Stuff you might have noticed that I never wrote a review of shampoo. The reason is once again my loyalty towards Pantene. But is Vive pro powerful enough to replace it? You will know its answer in the review below.

Benefits

The best part of Vive pro Hydra Gloss is its scent. It is sweet, relaxing, long lasting, yet not overpowering. First time when I used the shampoo this scent totally blew my mind. Next, Vive pro liquid is very consistent and thick. I almost had the feeling that I was applying beaten raw egg to my hair. The fascinating part of this shampoo is its ability to dry out the wet hair quicker. I am sure that L’Oreal during lab testing did not notice it. Otherwise, they would have highlighted it on the label.

My hair does not have any damages. That is why, I cannot tell whether the shampoo can really fix them. However, it seems to have no problem in leaving the hairs soft and separated from one another. Additionally, even without the conditioner, it does a great job of adding a healthy amount of gloss to them. In other words, the hair does not look dull at all. But yes, do not expect to see sparkles. That is the job of conditioners and shampoos with 2 in 1 formula.

Does this shampoo make hair fall badly? In my case, this has not happened. Yet I will not say that the chemicals in it are completely friendly. I will explain it all in details under the problem section. But before that, let me quickly give you the recap of the benefits that can be derived from Vive pro:

Problems

Vive pro hydra gloss liquid is very sticky and extremely less slippery. This makes it difficult to massage it on to the hair. The best possible thing to avoid this problem is to use extra drops of this shampoo. However, Vive pro bottle is not gigantic and thus, such a technique will only make the shampoo run out faster. I have tried my usual mix in water idea to break this stickiness of Vive Pro. But it has not proven to be very helpful. The shampoo just does not wish to spread.

First time when I used Vive pro I was happy with its overall result. However, now I notice that it gives me rashes on my scalp (started after 3^rd trial). This happens even if I use a very small amount of the liquid and wash my hair perfectly. I am now very suspicious of the ingredients that go in this shampoo. On the label, I see that one of them is salicylic acid, the acne fighting substance (rarely used in shampoos). I believe sneaky L’Oreal knows that chemicals in the shampoo can give allergic reactions to the scalp. That is why, salicylic acid has been added to it. Unfortunately, it remains ineffective at least for me.

Now here is a quick recap of not so digestible and forgivable problems of Vive pro Hydra Gloss:

The scent is good, the gloss is nice, softness can be appreciated and getting the hair dry out faster is beneficial. The rashes coming from this shampoo are not just itchy, but also painful. In fact if you are prone to getting allergies avoid it completely. So how many stars should I give it? Trouble free scalp is more important than hair gloss! That is why; I bequeath this shampoo 2 out of 5 stars.

Should You Keep Lipsticks in the Fridge: Experiment Report

There has been a lot of debate on whether we should keep lipsticks in the fridge. Many say that the technique prevents them from expiring or getting rotten. The other group disagrees with this statement saying that there is no theory on whether cold temperature can make a lipstick long lasting. Do you wish to find out which side is right? If yes just go over my experiment report.

Preparation and Time:

The lipsticks I used in my experiment were L’Oreal Endless lip color (Color#730, Saucy Sangria) and CoverGirl Continuous Color (Color#040 Wineberry Sheer). I specifically picked them because I was not their fan and plus, they were cheap. I knew I was not going to regret if they ended up expiring. Another thing was that they were already half used by me.

Before locking them in the fridge, I put them inside a Ziploc bag so they would remain protected from the smell and accidental spill of foods and drinks. The lipsticks stayed inside for 2 years and one month.

Experiment Result:

I took them out yesterday. The smell test revealed nothing odd at all. In fact, their original scent seemed be still there. As for the colors, they did not change either. There was also no problem with their gliding behavior. CoverGirl’s Continues Color is always glossy. Good news is that Wineberry Sheer, even after staying so long in the fridge seemed to not show any deterioration of that either. But the most surprising gist was the absence of bubbles. In the past, I heard from makeup experts that lipsticks taken out of the fridge gave off tiny water bubbles or sweat in the normal temperature of home environment. It is possible that their statement was based on those made in the 90s. I remember seeing the bubbles all over my aunt’s refrigerated lipsticks back in 1997. But now the formula in most lipsticks has gone through advancement. Perhaps, that is why, the bubbles were not present in my lipsticks. Yet I wanted to do an artificial test to see if experts’ theory could still be taken as legitimate. So I allowed my lipsticks to stay 1 minute in front of the heater. See the result below.

Both the lipsticks seemed to still give off no sweat. What we need to understand from this is that today’s lipsticks are very different. They do not become lazy in cold temperature. As a matter of fact, it is possible for them to survive at least 2 years in a row in the fridge. I left my lipsticks again in the fridge to see if they last even after 3 years. I will write about the result in 2013 around this time.

Healthy skin liquid makeup is another foundation from Neutrogena. According to the company, it leaves the skin toned and glowing. The coverage is said to be good also. Meanwhile, the texture is lightweight and silky. It is perfect for wearing before going in the sun, for it comes with SPF 20 and antioxidants.

Those are the points written on the label of the foundation. Only the end users like us have the final say on whether there is any truth in them. So here is my review. I basically used this liquid makeup 3 months.

Benefits

For acne prone skin, Neutrogena products are taken as good. Of course, the opposite is possible if the skin is allergic to them. I am free of this problem. So I thought to try out this healthy skin foundation.

The first trial, however, left me disappointed, for I have been more used to thick foundations. Neutrogena healthy skin liquid makeup is too watery and that really annoyed me. I thought I was not getting the desired coverage. Still I continued using the foundation. This definitely helped me discover a few of its surprising effects. One of them was evenly toned skin. The worn foundation made me feel as if I just washed my face. The best term I would use for it is “refreshing”. Another one is velvet effect. Meanwhile, the foundation blended well with the skin color and even made dry skin flakes less visible.

The best effect of this foundation is seen in photos. The face just looks clear in them. Additionally, the liquid texture is lightweight which works to neutralize the feeling of wearing too much makeup. Another thing is that the foundation has not given me any acne despite the fact that my skin is sensitive. But I will not emphasize it too much as a benefit because we all do not have the same skin type.

So here is the summary of the benefits that can be derived from Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup:

Problems

The foundation liquid has extremely watery texture. Moreover, its bottle is small. So the foundation tends to run out faster especially if used everyday. One who has a bigger face will be more in trouble with it. Also large pimples are not easy to cover with this foundation, but yes they do not go through any harm. Price is another problem. The foundation costs over $11. That is too much for a small bottle. Additionally, during a hot day, the foundation does seem to lower its effects after 5 or 7 hours of wear. So touch up is necessary. Last, the foundation comes in 12 skin shades whereas many other brands have more than 15.

Let us summarize all that quickly in the form of points:

I just wish the foundation came in more shades and had a better bottle. But due to the fulfilled promises, I would give the foundation 4 out of 5 stars.

Those who have wrinkles should stay away from it. The problem is that the concealer color does not blend well with the lines to make them invisible. Also its color over them tends to become dull and artificial.

Verdict:

Tropez concealer is very affordable. The price is usually somewhere between $1.29 and $3. It is also hard to ignore the fact that inside the tube, the concealer lasts a long time even after several usage. So it can be taken as friendly to tight budget. But as mentioned before, it comes in limited shades and is just not appropriate for all skin types. Quality wise, it is below average under the makeup, but good on a bare skin, but that is also if it is free of problems. The Curious Case of the Furious Girl Who Attacked All

Something really terrible happened last week in Florida. It was just one ordinary day when a girl on the school bus wanted to enjoy her candy, but was stopped by the driver. Just today, I received a forwarded message from a friend. Its subject was “Warning Very Important”. Of course, such headlines are used religiously by spammers, forcing us to delete their emails immediately. But I could not do the same with this specific one because this friend of mine went to business school with me. For a moment, I actually thought that it had something to do with our major and school. So as I opened it, I found out that it was some sort of chain email. I read it and found out that it was about new gang member’s initiation ritual. Just see the screen shot below.

Whatever is written here sounds very creepy. But think twice before forwarding such email to your friends. Since you are already online you should take help of Google or any other search engine of your choice to find out whether there is any truth in such emails. It is actually quite easy to do. Just copy the first line of the email and paste it in a search bar.

Once you hit the enter button, you will surely be able to find several sites who already have this email. See what I have got here.

The forwarded warning, therefore, is a hoax and nothing else. Yes, such writing can create panic in you. But take this kind of stuff with a grain of salt. It is possible for them to be true. The only way to know it is through the Internet.
